Welcome to the Sigma MU Chapter
of
Tri-Ess International, Inc.
We know that first step out
is hard.
Let us help you make it.
BACKGROUND
Tri-Ess (The Society for the
Second Self) is a private, non-profit educational, social support and outreach
corporation. Tri-Ess was created in 1976 from the merging of the Full Personality
Expression (F.P.E.) and Carol Beecroft's "Mamselle Sorority". It's
roots go back to 1961 with the founding of the F.P.E. Tri-Ess understands
that cross dressing can subject a member's family life to severe strains.
A major part of its mission is to prevent this type of domestic strife,
and to help heal the wounds when they do occur. Tri-Ess considers the needs
of the wives and partners as important as that of the cross dresser.
Over the years, this emphasis
has paid off. In 1978, a survey showed that about 1/3 of its members described
their wife/partner as "cooperative" or "understanding" when it came to
their cross dressing. By 1993, that number has increased to more that 50%!
The Sigma Mu chapter is located
in Fayetteville Arkansas. Its members come from Missouri, Arkansas,
and Eastern Kansas and Oklahoma. Sigma Mu is one of 38 active and forming Tri-Ess chapters,
which are located throughout North America.
OUR MISSION
To act as a non-sexual support
group for heterosexual cross dressers, their spouses/partners and their
families and to assist its members in developing understanding and acceptance
of both masculine and feminine qualities essential to their personalities.
To further this purpose, provide opportunities for cross dressing programs,
services and social activities for the support of our members, and to support
the education and enlightenment of society as to the nature of cross dressing
through Tri-Ess Outreach programs, and to assist members with problems
related to cross dressing, whenever possible.
MEMBERSHIP INFO
We are very security conscious.
All prospective members must be interviewed before attending a meeting.
An informal meeting with one of our voting members is arranged to chat
and make sure that we are what you are looking for in a support group,
and that our members, as well as your, security will not be compromised.
This interview is usually held at a restaurant or other public location.
For those that are coming from out of state, an interview can be arranged
before a chapter meeting.
All members of Sigma Mu are
required to be members in good standing with Tri-Ess, the national organization
which has chartered Sigma Mu. All members of Tri-Ess receive their
quarterly newsletter, "The Mirror". If the spouse or significant
other has joined Tri-Ess, they will receive the quarterly newsletter "Sweetheart
Connection".
After becoming a member, you
will receive the chapter's monthly newsletter, "Sigma Mu News", about chapter
happenings. Included is information on where to shop in the area, informative
articles concerning cross dressing, letters from other members, a section
for spouses, and news and dates on upcoming events, local and national.

MEETINGS
We normally meet
the second weekend of the month for our regular meetings, programs
and socialization, during which most all of our members dress en-femme.
THE NEXT MEETING IS SATURDAY, February 9th, 2008.
There are also informal social
gatherings scheduled to be announced. Our meetings are designed to allow
periods for cross dressing and other times where dressing, in deference
to our supportive ladies, en-femme is not allowed.
